4 Ways to stop Weeds That Doesn’t Involve Pesticides or Chemicals

I don’t know about you but I don’t want GMO toxic chemicals in my yard. Think about that if you have kids and/or pets. They walk in the grass and bring the cancer-causing chemicals into your clean house. Here are 4  ways to stop weeds safely.

Stop weeds That Doesn't Involve Pesticides or Chemicals1) Pull them out, Duh. It’s not as hard as you think. I do pull some of my weeds out, in my vegetable and flower garden. However, my gravel driveway is long and I cannot pull out all the weeds. To make it easier to pull the weeds from the smaller areas wait until after a rain storm, or water the area down with a hose. Make sure you get the root.

2) Use vinegar and dish soap this is what I use for my long driveway. Mix one gallon of vinegar with 2 tsp. of dish soap and spray. You have to use it on a hot sunny day, it burns the weeds and it does work.

Driveway weedsThis is my driveway above, you can see it is too long to pull the weeds and I need to spray again.

You can see where I sprayed the vinegar and dish soap. I sprayed too late in the day, so the sun didn’t have enough time to burn the weeds.

3) Use hot water to burn them. You can use water from cooked pasta or hot water you have used to cook with or just heat it up.

4) Smother the weeds so they don’t get sunlight. You can use a car, newspaper (wet it to hold it down or put mulch on it), or anything to keep the light out. It works well on clover and crabgrass.
