Have you been trying to lose weight for a while? You may find that just because a diet works for someone, it doesn’t mean that it’ll work for you. 1. Drink water
Water will help flush your system, keep your body hydrated, and increase energy. If water is not part of your routine now, start slowly by adding six 8 oz cups per day until you get to eight to ten cups. A colleague showed me a simple test to check for dehydration. Simply press your thumb against your shin and if there is an indentation, you need more water.
2. Be prepared
Cook some meat cut up vegetables and prepare meals ahead so you are prepared. If you are prepared there will never be an excuse to not eat a healthy meal. Breakfast may be your hardest meal to get in, but it is the most important. Try cooking eggs ahead and a batch of oatmeal and just heat them up in the morning or you can try these “best muffins ever“. This is much quicker and healthier than going through the drive through. If there is a busy day ahead a great trick is to fill a zip-lock bag with cooked cut up chicken, a bunch of your favorite vegetables, an apple and a chunk of raw cheddar cheese. So easy, It’s finger food!
3. Watch portion sizes
We all have a tendency to overeat. When eating out, eat only half of what is on your plate. Take the rest home for another meal. and no second helpings at dinner.
4. Cut out sugar
Sugar is a drug and very addicting. Sugar puts a nasty sticky lining on your digestive tracks and can hinder nutrient absorption. Sugar makes us tired, unfocused and hungry. Chances are if we have sugar cravings, the rest of our eating plan is not balanced with the proper amount of protein, carbohydrates, and fats (see metabolic typing).
5. Eat at least 3 meals per day
If you do not consume enough food, your metabolism will slow down and make it harder for you to lose fat. If you eat more than three meals you will need to eat fewer calories per meal.
6. You cannot out exercise bad eating I used to teach ten aerobic classes per week but indulged in too many cookies. I was 20 pounds overweight. Enough said.
7. Be consistent
Our bodies love consistency! Follow through the weekend what you do during the week. Many of us do very well with our eating and workouts during the week, but overeat and sit around on the weekend. Keeping up with a consistent plan will get the unwanted pounds off and give you more energy.
8. Change the way we think
If you blow it for breakfast and eat doughnuts, the whole day is not shot. Simply go back to your healthy eating at the next meal time. Keep a positive attitude.
9. Limit your alcohol
Alcohol is in the same category as sugar. If you drink alcohol on a regular basis you will not lose fat. Save the alcohol for special occasions and maybe one night per week. I have to drink 64 oz. water/day so I can avoid any more kidney stones! I do follow most of your advice but I know carbs are my poison. Not that I overdo it but I do have them. I think I need a nutritionist, AND to keep reading all of your sage advice.
