Are You Using Toxic Skincare, Makeup, and Body Products?

Skincare, Makeup, and Body Products?

It’s a new year and we want to get fit and healthy, right! You’ve probably started eating better but what about the toxic Skincare, Makeup, and Body Products you use. Most of us know what “bad food” is. We know to stay away from bad carbs and the sugar, but do you know that what you put on your skin can be just as bad? Well it is!

Skin is our largest organ and we need to take better care of it. When you buy soap, shampoo, and makeup, you don’t want formaldehyde, synthetic fragrances or synthetic preservatives in them. What about products that are tested on poor animals or have animal derived ingredients, do you want to use these products?

Did you know?

  • Lipstick can be licked off and swallowed. Most have lead in them.
  • Eye makeup is absorbed through mucous membranes, along with the toxins.
  • Body lotion is absorbed through our skin and we put the toxic stuff all over our body.
  • What about laundry detergent, shampoo, sunscreen, and conditioner, do you know what’s in yours?

Have you heard of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), and Ammonium Laurel Sulfate (ALS)? Look at your soap, toothpaste, shampoos, hair color and anything else you use on your body, are these ingredients in any of them? They are used as a foaming agent in lots of products. Go look at your toothpaste right now to see if these ingredients are in it. These ingredients according to the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep, have been linked to:

  • Organ toxicity
  • Neurotoxicity
  • Endocrine disruptor
  • Can possible cause mutations and cancer

You’re right. We think about what goes in our body, but rarely what goes on it. Great post.

  4. Silly Mummy

I have to admit that I am not good at bothering to check such things! On the plus side, I use FAR less products since having children! 😀

    1. Sherry Macdonald

Silly Mummy, maybe now you will check more often. It is more important because you have kids. Stay healthy!

This is something I’ve been thinking about lately. Who knows what harm we are doing to our bodies with these foreign substances? Same goes for chemically-treated food. I think there is so much we don’t know about the dangers.

You are right! All we can do is keep learning.
